Department Overview
The Henry County Department of Public Safety coordinates all emergency services in the County. The department employs nine personnel, including a Director, a Deputy Director/Fire Marshal, a EMS Coordinator, a Deputy Fire Marshal/Fire Training Coordinator, an Assistant Fire Marshal, an EMS Training Coordinator, an EMT Instructor, a Fire Instructor, and an administrative assistant. Equipment for emergency management includes a hazardous materials response trailer, a mobile air supply unit, a mass casualty incident response trailer, a decontamination trailer, and a technical hazardous operations unit.
The County participates in the Federal Emergency Management Agencys Emergency Management Assistance (EMA) program. This program provides federal funds to qualifying localities meeting certain emergency management standards in planning, response, mitigation, and training.
In 2002, the County adopted a revised County Emergency Operations Plan. The plan, which is required by State law and must meet FEMA guidelines, details response routines for numerous emergency situations, including man-made and natural disasters. A terrorism annex was added to the plan with this adoption. Henry County, working collaboratively with other jurisdictions in PD12, adopted a regional Mitigation Plan.
