The Public Utilities Committee of the Ridgeway Ruritan Club organized the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Departments in 1957. In July 1959, a new Ford 500 gpm pumper was purchased at a cost of $12,900. In the early years, 'water supply' was two old oil tanker trucks, painted red with a red light and siren on top. Currently the department operates two stations that primarily serve the Ridgeway community.
