The Fieldale Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1949; and the first chief was Hobert Gusler. The department's first truck was a 1950 Ford pumper. The department moved from its initial location on Main Street to a new station in 1960. The new station was previously the Dale Movie Theatre that was renovated to house the fire department.
